How Albert Einstein Can Help Increase Your Fantasy Football Performance by 45%

In the famous words of Albert Einstein, “Insanity is doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results.”

Whether you’re dominating your league or toiling in the cellar, my guess is that you want to maximize your fantasy football teams performance for the remainder of the season.  I know, I know, you’re probably thinking I must be a descendant of Einstein to come up with that theory but stick with me for just a minute.

Let me first ask, do you tend to listen to same Web sites (maybe Yahoosports, ESPN or Rotoworld) for weekly advice?  Well, there’s no need to apologize…more than 80% of us do!  But, our research suggests that “doing the same things over and over” could be costing you 45% or more in production.  Think about how you watch TV…you have a channel for sports, a channel for national news, a different channel for travel and yet another channel for local news…there just isn’t any single channel that provides the depth of coverage you want on a particular subject so you’re forced to use specialists.

When thinking about fantasy football research you should employ the same concept – create a set of optimal “channels” based on the type of advice you need.  Having trouble deciding which RB you should play?  Not sure if you should pick up 1 player over another?  What about a critical start or sit decision?  So far in 2009 certain sources have proven to be better than others in each of these categories. Let’s take a look at October and identify some of the best:

Waiver Wire Pickup Advice – FFtoday.com

Interesting Findings About Some of the Most Popular Sites

SI.com – a big surprise is how inaccurate SI.com has been in 2009 relative to their peers.  Our data shows they were least accurate in predicting RBs and Waiver Wire Pick-ups, finished in the bottom 5 for QBs, and finished in the bottom quarter of all sources for predicting TEs.

ESPN.com – if you’re looking for Waiver Wire or Start & Sit advice, ESPN may not be the place to go.  They finished in the bottom 3rd in all 3 of these categories.  As for ESPN’s Player Ranking predictions, they finished in the middle of the pack for each category, but they only made the top 5 for QB rankings.

* To determine accuracy we compare pre-game player rankings/predictions from more than 35 well-known and popular fantasy football Web sites vs. the actual production of the players.

Key Takeaway That Can Help You This Weekend

We are seeing a group of “best of breed” fantasy football sources emerge that tend to do particularly well with certain types of advice (like player rankings for QBs, waiver wire advice, etc.).  In many cases, these specialists are up to 45% better at the particular category than the bottom performer.  Knowing who these sources are and where they have expertise could have a significant impact on your teams performance over the next few months.

To help you recognize some of these best of breed sources, FantasyXPERT will be providing Most Accurate Badges each month for the sources that have finished first in the various categories.  Look for these badges on various top-performing Web sites.
